Hundreds of students from Des Moines and Pleasant Hill schools attended a matinee performance of Grammy award-winning singers Lady Black Mambazo at Stephens Auditorium Feb. 28.The group, which combines Zulu and gospel music, found fame with an appearance on Paul Simon's Graceland album.

Student bridge-building contest March 5

Student teams from several states will compete in a steel bridge-building competition Saturday, March 5, in Hilton Coliseum. The public is invited to watch builders erect their one-tenth scale bridges. The competition is part of the American Society of Civil Engineers Midwest Regional Student Conference.

WOI Radio to go live with new southern Iowa station

FM 97.9 on Graceland University campus in Lamoni will go live at 5:29 p.m., Feb. 18. The station is the fifth in the WOI Radio Group, a consortium of Iowa public radio stations licensed to Iowa State. Kevin Klose, National Public Radio president, will be in Lamoni to bring the station on air.

Barjche dancers

Barjche 2005

Iowa State's annual modern dance concert, Barjche, will be held at Fisher Theater Feb. 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. It's been a tradition at ISU since the early 1940s. The diverse performance features the talents of more than 60 students who serve as dancers, choreographers, lighting designers, costume designers, stage managers and crew. Tickets are $6 and may be purchased at the Stephens Auditorium box office or through Ticketmaster.
