Leopold Center director will take on new role
Fred Kirschenmann, director of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State, has accepted a new leadership role as a distinguished fellow of the center. Jerry DeWitt, coordinator of ISU Extension's sustainable agriculture program and its Pest Management and Environment Program, has been named interim director of the Leopold Center, effective Nov. 1.

Saturday groundbreaking for ISU Alumni Center
The ISU Alumni Association will host an official groundbreaking ceremony Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m., on the site of the future ISU Alumni Center on Beach Ave. The groundbreaking will honor Bobbi and Roy Reiman, the lead donors to the project. The entire project will be funded through the private support of ISU friends and alumni. The ISU Alumni Center will accommodate all of the association's staff and programs. Construction will last approximately 18 months, with a scheduled completion date of middle to late 2007. The groundbreaking ceremony will feature speakers from across the university and alumni communities, and give attendees the opportunity to sneak a peek at the plans for the new building. Earthquake relief fund-raiser Oct. 20
ISU's Pakistan Students Association will hold a fund-raising event tonight (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall, Memorial Union, to benefit victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. Jane Dawson, senior lecturer in geological and atmospheric sciences, will provide perspective on the recent earthquake, and a video depicting the devastation will be shown. The Pakistan Students Association has already sent food and blankets to earthquake victims, but hopes to do more with support from the ISU community. "Please join us and help raise more funds," said Kaiser Kaiserani, president of the Pakistan Students Association. "Even a $1 contribution would buy two full meals for a person in the affected area. Another award for Stephens Auditorium
ISU's C.Y. Stephens Auditorium has received an inaugural 25-year award from the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The new award recognizes an Iowa building (25 to 40 years old) that has outstanding and timeless architectural design. Last year, the Iowa chapter named Stephens Auditorium "Building of the Century." The Iowa chapter also recognized the Steve and Debbie Bergstrom Training Facility with a merit award.
Union ramp expected to open Oct. 11
The Memorial Union parking ramp, which is undergoing repairs, is expected to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 11. The general public should enter the ramp through the north ground floor entrace and park on the upper levels only. Ramp permit holders may enter through the south gate and park on level E.

Bowen named executive director of Iowa Lakeside Lab
Bonnie Bowen, a member of the ISU faculty since 1995, has been named executive director at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, Milford. Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, an educational facility on 140 acres on West Lake Okoboji, is operated cooperatively by the three Regents universities -- Iowa State, the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa.
Breakfast fundraiser to benefit Albright memorial fund
From 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8, Alpha Gamma Rho members will serve waffles, flavored syrups, sausage and beverages at their fraternity house, 201 Gray Ave. The cost is $5 per person or $4 in advance. All money raised will go to a memorial fund for Andrew "Ardie" Albright, an ISU sophomore and fraternity member who was killed in a Sept. 13 car accident.
