Goran Micevic awarded Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship for medical school

AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa State University May graduate has received a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship. Goran Micevic, Belgrade, Serbia, was awarded the graduate fellowship of $5,000. The Iowa State University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society nominated him for the award.

Micevic earned his degree in biochemistry and will attend Yale University Medical School, New Haven, Conn., in the fall.

In 2009, Micevic received a Goldwater Scholarship, the premier undergraduate award of its type in mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. He was a Mayo Clinic Summer Research Fellow in 2009, and interned as a visiting scientist at the renowned German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg in the summer of 2008.

Micevic conducted undergraduate research related to gene expression in the laboratory of Kristen Johansen, an Iowa State professor of biochemistry. He plans to pursue a career in biomedical research in the areas of epigenetics and cancer.
