Engineering Career Fair relocates

Since Hilton Coliseum is temporarily colsed, the College of Engineering's Career Services has relocated the fall 2010 Engineering Career Fair to the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center. The career fair will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21. A shuttle service will take students from campus to Scheman, and attendees may also park in the lots south of Hilton and Scheman. The Engineering Career Fair is part of Engineers' Week 2010 , a week-long celebration of engineering coordinated by engineering students.

General update, Aug. 25

by Warren Madden, vice president for business and finance

"The arrival of students and the beginning of classes on Monday, Aug. 23, began with relatively little difficulty. We have been able to accommodate all of the impacted staff and students by relocating them to temporary facilities. Scheduled events have been relocated. We are actively proceeding with cleanup efforts, working closely with insurance companies, state and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) representatives. President Barack Obama has issued a disaster declaration, which assists in our restoration efforts.
"We are still in the process of assessing the extent of the damage, particularly to building electrical and mechanical systems, so we don't have an accurate estimate of the costs at this time, but it will be millions of dollars. We expect to be able to occupy all of the major facilities that incurred flood damage in the next few weeks, with Hilton being the most challenging. Our goal is to be able to use Hilton for the basketball season.
"Thanks to all the faculty, staff, students, city of Ames and community volunteers for their efforts over the past two weeks. We feel very fortunate that no one was seriously injured during the floods and cleanup."

Lied Center closes

The Lied Recreation Center is closed until further notice. The facility requires total dehumidification, and that can't be accomplished while the facility is open and in use. Beyer Hall is open for recreational use. Beyer has a limited amount of cardio workout equipment. See the recreation services' website for updates.

ISU Physical Therapy, a service available to faculty, staff and students in the Lied Center is temporarily relocated to 111 Forker. The phone number remains the same, 4-2626. Parking is available on the west side of Forker, in lot 50A. To make an appointment or request more information, call, or visit the PT website.
