Fan tips for annual Cyclone-Hawkeye matchup

Fans

AMES, Iowa - This Saturday in Ames, it's the state's biggest game of the year.

When the Cyclones and the Hawkeyes renew their intrastate football rivalry for the 61st time this Saturday at 5 p.m., 75,000 fans will be in and around Jack Trice Stadium to cheer them on. And that's a lot of people, cars and congestion in an area covering less than a square mile.

As always, Iowa State University officials encourage fans to have fun, celebrate responsibly, and allow plenty of time to reach the stadium in time for tailgating and kickoff.

Motorists can expect little road construction on the way to Ames, except for a possible slowdown on I-80 westbound at the U.S. 65 bypass near Altoona. Travel information is available via the Iowa Department of Transportation at www.511ia.org.

Park it right here

Donor (Cyclone Club) parking lots will open at 7 a.m.; general public lots will open at 11 a.m. Saturday. Jack Trice Stadium gates open at 3:30 p.m. Avoid bringing bags and large purses; you'll get into the game much more quickly carrying nothing but a ticket.

Public parking prices near the stadium are $40 for RVs and buses, $20 for cars and $5 for motorcycles. Medical accessible parking is located in Lot S2.

Iowa State University and the City of Ames ask football fans who park in the streets and neighborhoods surrounding the stadium to be considerate of homeowners. Fans are expected to park legally and obey parking regulations. Trash should not be left behind, and guests should be sensitive to noise levels.

The Big 12 Conference encourages good sportsmanship from everyone attending this event. Please support the athletes and coaches in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating actions directed at other fans, the teams or the officials may lead to arrest.
