BLOUNT, SMITH NAMED ASSOCIATE DEANS
FOR IOWA STATE’S COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

AMES, Iowa – Jackie Blount, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, and Roger Smith, professor of industrial education, have been named associate deans for Iowa State University’s College of Education.

Blount began her new duties Aug. 2. In 1997, she earned ISU’s Early Achievement in Teaching Award and in 1998 the Thomas Urban Award for Research in Education from the First in the Nation in Education Foundation. Her research focus is on gender issues.

Smith began his new position Aug. 14. In 1998, he received ISU’s Achievement in Teaching Award. His research interest is integrating technology into industrial plants.

The two will replace Shirley Wood, who retired June 30, and Larry Ebbers, who returns to the faculty to facilitate a statewide community college task force.

"While we will miss the 60-plus combined years of experience and leadership of Ebbers and Woods, we are absolutely thrilled about the new leadership prospective brought to the college by Jackie Blount and Roger Smith," said College of Education Dean Walter Gmelch. "Jackie brings fresh ideas to college leadership and Roger has a proven record."
