IOWA SBDC STATE DIRECTOR AWARDED ACHIEVEMENT HONOR

AMES, Iowa -- Jon Ryan, state director of the Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC), has been awarded the Shel Sitrick Memorial Achievement Award from the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce for having a positive impact on Bettendorf and the surrounding Quad Cities area. The SBDC is an arm of Iowa State University's College of Business.

Ryan, who until January was director of the Eastern Iowa Community College District SBDC, Davenport, was recognized for service as a past president of the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce, past chair of several chamber committees, past president of the Quad Cities Council of Chambers, past president of the Quad Cities Arts Council, and as a six-term Bettendorf City Council member.

Ryan has also served as the chair of the Bettendorf Downtown Redevelopment Committee and as the author of a historical book chapter on Bettendorf for "Quad Cities: Joined By A River."

In addition to his work with the SBDC since 1985, Ryan also worked as a private college vice president and senior vice president of a local bank. With the SBDC, Ryan was co-chair of the Re-engineering Task Force for Iowa and the funding committee. He coordinated courses for assisting growth and development of small- and mid-sized businesses in a four-county area of eastern Iowa and provided counseling to more than 5,000 start-up and ongoing businesses.

Shel Sitrick was a long-time Bettendorf Chamber member and community leader.
