ISU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION PROFESSOR EARNS RESEARCH AWARD

AMES, Iowa -- Thomas Alsbury, assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies in Iowa State University's College of Education, has earned the 2003 Distinguished Paper Award from a national education research organization.

In December 2002, the Iowa chapter of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) recognized Alsbury's research on why school board members and superintendents quit and the impact of school district turnover on student achievement.

The national American Educational Research Association's Consortium of State and Regional Educational Research Associations also recognized the paper at its annual meeting in Chicago.

The group's mission is to advance educational research and application. It is based in Washington, D.C.

Alsbury was the first member of the Iowa chapter of the AERA to present at the national group's annual distinguished paper session.

Alsbury came to Iowa State in 2002 from Washington State University, Pullman. He teaches educational leadership and organizational behavior and advises masters and doctoral students.
