IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY REMEMBERS 9/11

Ames, Iowa -- Iowa State University will observe the second anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with flags flown at half-staff and a moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. Iowa time, as requested by President George W. Bush.

Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy has authorized tolling of the Carillon bells 11 times in remembrance of the victims who died in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Tin-shi Tam, university carillonneur, will toll the bells beginning at approximately 7:48 a.m.

From now through Sept. 12, there will also be a plaque in the Gold Medal Hall of the Memorial Union in memory of Mari Rae Sopper, who was a member of the ISU gymnastics team and class of 1988. Sopper died on Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
