ISU TO CONTINUE STUDY OF GAMBLING'S IMPACT ON IOWANS

AMES, Iowa -- Faculty in Iowa State University's College of Family and Consumer Sciences will continue to look at the effects of gambling on family finances, relationships and tourism.

College officials recently approved three new studies:

--"The Impact of Gambling on Relationships" - Linda Enders and Tahira K. Hira, human development and family studies.

--"Gambling and the Bankruptcy Connection" - Tahira K. Hira, human development and family studies.

--"Iowa Residents' Attitudes Toward Using Gambling as a Tourist Attraction" - Cathy Hsu, hotel, restaurant, and institution management.

Family and Consumer Sciences faculty presented results from their Iowa-based research on a variety of gambling-related issues at a conference last October. Findings from the new studies will be included in a college publication on gambling due out next summer.

New research is being supported by private funds.
