UNVEILING SET FOR ISU'S NEWEST SOLAR CAR

AMES, Iowa -- PrISUm Phoenix, Iowa State's entry into Sunrayce 99 will be unveiled Saturday, March 27, at 3 p.m. in the atrium of the Molecular Biology building. The solar car, a sleek "table top" design with a rising Phoenix painted on its nose, is being readied for Sunrayce 99, a 1,340-mile race from Washington, D.C. to Orlando, Fla., June 20-29.

Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, Dave Holger, and Team PrISUm Director, Allen Ihlefeld, will speak prior to the car's unveiling. The unveiling is free and open to the public. The Molecular Biology building is located on the northwest corner of campus on Pammel Drive. Parking is available directly north of the building.

Sunrayce is an on-going educational program that culminates in a biennial cross-country race of solar-powered cars. The program is open to colleges, universities, trade schools and other post-secondary educational institutions. PrISUm Phoenix is the fifth solar car built by Iowa State students, who have participated in Sunrayce activities since 1990.

The unveiling will provide good visuals and many of the key students who designed and built the car will be on hand for interviews. Program begins at 3:15 p.m
