H1N1 Flu

H1N1 clinics scheduled Nov. 23-24; most students are eligible to receive vaccine

Story County Public Health has scheduled public H1N1 vaccination clinics in Ames on Nov. 23 and 24. The clinics will be held:

  • Monday, Nov. 23, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Scheman Building, rooms 260-262, on the Iowa State campus; and
  • Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at RSVP, Suite 123, Colorado Junction Mall, 113 Colorado Ave.

Persons age six months to 24 years remain among the priority groups eligible to receive the H1N1 vaccine; vaccinations are free.

Letter to Iowa State students

In an Oct. 30 letter, Vice President for Student Affairs Tom Hill said the campus has been hard hit by the flu. He advised students to protect themselves from flu and noted faculty are asked to be flexible with ill students who can't attend class.

ISU Dining and the Department of Residence are featuring everyone's favorite mascot, Cy, in a public health campaign to help prevent the spread of H1N1 flu virus. Hundreds of posters will be visible in the residence halls, dining facilities and around campus. See poster. (pdf)

Story County has established a seasonal flu clinic hotline, (515) 233-7577; and an H1N1 flu clinic hotline at (515) 233-7595. More information.

Letter to Iowa State faculty and staff

In an Aug. 24 letter, to faculty and staff, Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Hoffman and Vice Presidents Warren Madden and Thomas Hill offered H1N1 health recommendations.

In an Aug. 21 letter, Associate Provost David Holger encouraged faculty to be flexible with attendance policies and make reasonable accommodations for students who miss class due to illness.
