Iowa State hosts the ship naming ceremony for the USS Iowa

President Steven Leath, Governor Terry Branstad, and Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus were on hand in the Memorial Union to announce the Navy's newest ship will be named the USS Iowa. Secretary Mabus called the USS Iowa the most technologically advanced ship in the world, and thanked ISU's Naval ROTC members for their service.
