Poist named department chair for logistics, operations and management information systems for ISU's College of Business

AMES, Iowa -- Richard F. Poist, Jr., professor of transportation and logistics for Iowa State University's College of Business, has been named chair of the department of logistics, operations and management information systems. His three-year appointment as chair began July 1. He had served as interim chair for the department since 2002.

Poist came to Iowa State in 1991. He teaches and researches primarily in the areas of purchasing, business logistics, supply chain management, societal issues related to logistics, and educational skill requirements of logistics managers.

Poist has served on the curriculum, faculty development, and promotion and tenure committees in the College of Business. At the university level, he has served as a member of the Faculty Senate and Faculty Senate Executive Board as well as the President's Task Force on Research.

Poist is currently state of Iowa vice president for the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA). He is on the editorial review board, the communications advisory committee, and the national career education committee of NDTA. He is also a member of numerous other professional associations.

He serves on a number of editorial review boards, including the Transportation Journal and the Journal of Business Logistics. Poist received a bachelor of science in 1965 from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park; a master of business administration in 1967 from the University of Maryland, College Park; and a doctor of philosophy degree in 1972 from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
