ISU fall convocation is Monday

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University will honor 55 faculty and professional staff members during the university's annual convocation Monday, Sept. 27, in the Memorial Union Sun Room. The convocation begins at 3 p.m. and is expected to last about 90 minutes.

The honorees have received university or Board of Regents, State of Iowa awards in the last year. Faculty appointed to named professorships and chairs in the last year also will be recognized.

The convocation begins with an academic procession of those being honored. President Gregory Geoffroy will summarize highlights from the past year at Iowa State and outline university priorities for the year ahead. Joining Geoffroy in presenting awards will be ISU vice presidents Benjamin Allen (academic affairs) and Thomas Hill (student affairs), Associate Vice President Margaret "Johnny" Pickett (business and finance), Vice Provost for Extension Stan Johnson, ISU Alumni Association President Jeff Johnson, and ISU Foundation President Dan Saftig.

Refreshments will be served following the award presentations. Prior to the start of the convocation, a student string quartet representing the ISU Symphony Orchestra will play. Quartet members include: Wilber Lio (violin), a junior in materials engineering from Vermillion, S.D.; and Ben Gale (violin) a senior in music; Lauren Freeman (viola), a junior in music; and Sandra Barnard (cello), a junior in biochemistry, all from West Des Moines.
