Public invited to beam signing of ISU student success center

AMES, Iowa-- Iowa State University is inviting the public to attend a ceremonial beam signing of the Hixson-Lied Student Success Center, Thursday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. The ceremony will take place on the building site, south of Fisher-Nickell Hall.

Funded entirely through the private support of ISU friends and alumni, the Hixson-Lied Student Success Center will serve Iowa State students in need of academic counseling, tutoring and testing services. The facility also will include a resource library, computer labs, individual and group study rooms, and meeting and classroom spaces.

The center, expected to be completed in March 2007, will be home to the Christina Hixson Opportunity Awards Program and the new Rod and Connie French Athletic Academic Center, which will serve student athletes in need of customized academic and personal development programs, study groups, tutoring and other services. The Hixson Opportunity Awards support up to 400 ISU undergraduate scholarships each year.

Those driving to the ceremony are asked to travel north on Beach Road from Lincoln Way. Parking is available in ISU General Lot 56 or Visitor Lot 100.
