Participants needed for outdoor physical activity study in Ames

Participants are being sought for an Iowa State University study of physical activity. Eligible participants are Ames residents who walk or run for exercise three or more times a week. To be eligible, participants must agree to wear devices measuring their level of physical activity and where they choose to walk or run for one week during each of the months of October 2005, January 2006, April 2006 and August 2006. Participants also will be asked to attend an instructional meeting and complete a photo preference survey. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

Participants will receive compensation if they complete all four data collection periods of the study and attend pre-study and post-study informational meetings. Expected risks or discomforts will be minimal because participants determine their own level of physical activity.

Participants may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty by notifying lead researcher Chris Seeger, assistant professor of landscape architecture. Seeger will be available to answer participants' questions throughout the study.
