Iowa State students, Ames residents donate aid to hurricane survivors

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University students and Ames community members are working together to help bring some relief to survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The program is called I KARE, Iowa Katrina Aid and Relief Effort.

Boxes to collect canned goods, non-perishable food items, clothes, blankets and other necessities have been placed around campus and at local retailers.

The collections will continue through next week, when the donations will leave for Mississippi and the victims.

ISU students also continue to collect money in cooperation with the Red Cross for the hurricane victims and will have donation stations at Jack Trice Stadium for the football game Saturday night.

People wishing to volunteer to collect the donated goods should contact ISU student John Tillo at 450-4243.
