AMES, Iowa -- Michael Morris, an internationally recognized expert on entrepreneurship, will talk about "Finding Relevance in Entrepreneurship: Applications and Aspirations" at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the auditorium of LeBaron Hall on the campus of Iowa State University. The event is free and open to the public.
Morris is professor and department chair of the entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises program at the Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University, New York. He also holds the Witting Chair in Entrepreneurship at Syracuse.
He has authored several books and articles on entrepreneurship. His most recent books are "Corporate Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurial Development Inside Organizations" and "Entrepreneurial Intensity: Sustainable Advantage for Individuals, Organizations and Societies."
His entrepreneurship program has earned several national awards and recognitions, including the 2005 National Model Program in Entrepreneurship Award from the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Madison, Wis., and NASDAQ's Program of Entrepreneurial Excellence Award in 2004.
The "Princeton Review" and "Forbes Magazine" both ranked the program as the seventh top curriculum in the country.
Morris earned his bachelors degree in economics in 1975 from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio; a masters degree in economics in 1976 and an MBA in 1978, both from Wright State; and a doctorate in marketing in 1983 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va.
The event is sponsored by the department of apparel, educational studies and hospitality management in the College of Human Sciences, Iowa State's Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, Council on Lectures, and Government of the Student Body.
