Pulitzer Prize-winner and Regents president to speak at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa -- Longtime Iowa resident and journalist Michael Gartner presents his lecture, "Outrage, Passion and Uncommon Sense: U.S. History Through the Editorial Pages," Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Sun Room, Memorial Union. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Gartner examines decisive issues and events in United States history through the nation's editorial pages and provides probing analysis. A book signing will follow.

Gartner has been a journalist for nearly 50 years and worked as Page One editor of The Wall Street Journal. He was general news executive of Gannett Co. and USA TODAY, president of NBC News, editor and president of The Des Moines Register and editor and co-owner of the Ames Tribune.

Gartner is currently president of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, and owner of the Iowa Cubs baseball team in Des Moines.

The lecture is part of the National Affairs Series.
