Actress and author Amy Sedaris to speak at Iowa State on March 12

AMES, Iowa -- Author Amy Sedaris, who played the role of Jerri Blank in the television series "Strangers with Candy," will talk about her recent book, "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence," at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in the ISU Memorial Union Great Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Sedaris' book shares her domestic skills and is a tongue-in-cheek guide to entertaining. Steve Sullivan, movie reviewer for the Ames Tribune and an editor for Meredith Corp., will be moderate the event. A book signing will follow.

Sedaris has also co-authored several plays with her brother, humorist David Sedaris; and "Wigfield" with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert, her co-authors for "Strangers with Candy."

In addition to her television role, Sedaris has appeared in such movies as "Maid in Manhattan," "School of Rock," "Elf" and "Bewitched." She has made guest appearances in the television shows "Sex and the City," "Just Shoot Me!" "My Name is Earl," "Ed" and "Monk."

The lecture is co-sponsored by the ISU Committees on Lectures (funded by the Government of the Student Body), and is part of the national affairs series "Can Laughter Save America?" For more information on lectures at ISU, visit http://www.lectures.iastate.edu or call (515) 294-9935.
