AMES, Iowa -- On Monday, Feb. 25, a potential vendor for Iowa State University's outdoor mass communication system will be testing sirens and voice capability on campus between 1 and 3 p.m.
Dave Miller, Facilities Planning and Management operations director, says that each test will last one to two minutes -- similar to the storm siren tests that occur on the first Wednesday of each month. The sound study is required of any potential vendors responding to a request for proposal to add to and update the existing City of Ames emergency siren system. Data from the tests will allow potential vendors to certify that their systems will provide adequate coverage for the Ames/ISU community.
The RFP was jointly issued by ISU and the City of Ames and is being administered by the ISU Purchasing Department. ISU seeks to install its own siren system (with voice capability) that will work in conjunction with the city's system.
Monday's test sites may include Knoll Road and Union Drive, Bissell Road and Union Drive, and Jack Trice Stadium. A vehicle with a boom attachment and a speaker system may be in the area.
