Freshman injured in fraternity house fall is serious, but stable

AMES, Iowa -- An Iowa State University freshman remains in serious but stable condition following a fall from a third-story window at the FarmHouse fraternity house, 311 Ash Ave.

Kaleb Stebens, 18, of Davenport reportedly fell through the window shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.

The Ames Police Department, Ames Fire Department, and paramedics from Mary Greeley Medical Center responded. Stebens was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center, and later transferred by helicopter to Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Ames Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fall.

The FarmHouse fraternity house is located off campus. The facility is managed and maintained by the chapter's corporation board. The fraternity is an officially recognized student organization and a member of the Interfraternity Council.

Student Affairs staff from Iowa State went to the hospital on Sunday to be with Stebens and his family. Counselors from ISU's Student Counseling Service are providing support to Stebens' fraternity brothers at FarmHouse.

Stebens' mother, Stephanie, said she expects her son to make a full recovery. She asks for the university community's continued thoughts and prayers.
