AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University Wednesday formally requested to name a new dorm under construction after a former President of ISU, Gregory Geoffroy.

The request before the Iowa Board of Regents cites Geoffroy’s leadership helping to establish new enrollment records and records in fundraising. Geoffroy led Iowa State’s capital campaign which raised over $800 million and also doubled the number of endowed faculty positions to 150.

The new dorm has 784 beds and costs $49.5 million. The new residence hall is expected to open in the spring of 2017.

Geoffroy also led construction on a number of campus building projects, including The Bergstrom Indoor Training Facility, Biorenewables Research Lab, Gerdin Business Building, Hach Hall, Hoover Hall, Lloyd Vet Med Center and others. He also helped to save Morrill Hall from demolition.

“Gregory L. Geoffroy Hall,” will join other campus buildings named after past presidents, including Friley, Hughes, Pearson, Chamberlain, Knapp, Welch, and Eaton.
