IOWA ENTREPRENEURIAL STUDENTS COMPETE FOR $15,000 IN SEED MONEY

AMES, Iowa – Twelve Iowa students – three from Iowa State University – will present regional award-winning business plans to John Pappajohn, founder of the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship and president of Equity Dynamics, Des Moines, at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the Des Moines Marriott.

Students were selected as the top winners from five regional competitions held at Iowa State University, the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa, Drake University and North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. The Pappajohn presentation is the final round in the competition.

The three students from Iowa State University are Richard Roush, West Des Moines; Ben Kellen, Ames; and Chris Bruner and Aaron Bruner, both of Windsor Heights.

Students will provide a 3-5 minute oral presentation about their start-up businesses to Pappajohn and a panel of executives from Equity Dynamics. The students’ plans will be judged on content and viability. Following the presentations and a luncheon, the three winners will be announced. Each will receive a $5,000 cash award from Pappajohn.

Pappajohn announced the competition during the Iowa Venture Capital Conference on Sept. 6.

Five Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers were established in 1996 by gifts from John and Mary Pappajohn for the purpose of creating wealth in Iowa through small business creation.
