REIMAN GARDENS TO BEGIN WINTER HOURS

AMES, Iowa – Winter hours will begin at Iowa State University's Reiman Gardens on Jan. 1, 2001.

Reiman Gardens will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gardens also will be available evenings and weekends for private events.

The gardens' summer hours, which will include weekend hours, will begin in May.

After several years of 24-hour accessibility, Reiman Gardens is establishing hours because of safety and staffing concerns, said Teresa McLaughlin, manager of Reiman Gardens. Reiman has doubled in size since 1995, but only has a staff of four, she said. A pond was installed at the gardens this year, and there is still a considerable amount of construction going on at the gardens. Also, garden paths are not cleared of snow during the winter, McLaughlin said.
