ISU’S COLLEGE OF EDUCATION EARNS INNOVATIVE USE OF TECHNOLOGY AWARD

AMES, Iowa -- The nation’s largest college education association today recognized Iowa State University’s College of Education for innovative use of technology and cutting-edge training for current and future teachers.

The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) presented its 2000 Best Practices Award for Innovative Use of Technology to ISU College of Education faculty at an event in Chicago.

The award recognizes the College’s technology training and impact on students, the university, school children and teachers, said David Imig, AACTE president.

Specifically, ISU’s College of Education was recognized for capitalizing on distance learning initiatives and involving student teachers, teachers, and professors with technology-based education lesson plans and hands-on activities.

AACTE also cited the College’s Center for Technology in Learning and Teaching, which provides programs and materials for professors, classroom teachers and pre-service teacher education students.

ISU’s effort to make its program and research available to other universities and school districts throughout the world was also cited.
