ISU THEATRE BRINGS CINDERELLA STORY TO DES MOINES PARKS

AMES, Iowa -- The ISU Minority Theatre Workshop's Summer Y2K Tour begins in Des Moines July 10 with a production of "Around the World with Cinderella." The production is part of the Des Moines Showmotion Outreach Program's Arts in Parks.

There are hundreds of versions of the Cinderella story throughout the world. In the ISU Theatre production, Cinderella introduces the audience to her sisters in Egypt (home of the oldest known version of the story), China and the Mic Mac Tribe of the Algonquin Nation.

Performances will be on Des Moines' Showmotion mobile stage. The free shows will be presented at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A schedule for the Des Moines productions is below.

Monday, July 10: Drake Park (24th St. and Cottage Grove Ave.)

Tuesday, July 11: South Side Library (1111 Porter Ave.)

Wednesday, July 12: McHenry Park (9th St. and Oak Park Ave.)

Thursday, July 13: Columbus Park (S.E. 2nd St. and Indianola Rd.)

On Friday, July 14, the production will be staged for blind campers at Camp Courageous in Monticello.

The production is directed by Shirley Basfield Dunlap, Iowa State associate professor of theater, and features a cast of 11 Iowa State students from throughout the United States, Nigeria and Brazil.
