ISU NAMES ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR LAS

AMES, Iowa – Steve Rodermel, professor of botany at Iowa State University, has been named associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The appointment is effective July 1.

As associate dean, Rodermel will be responsible for budget and personnel matters. Peter Orazem, professor of economics, has served as interim associate dean since 1998. He will return to his faculty position.

A faculty member at Iowa State since 1990, Rodermel has served as the chair of the interdepartmental genetics program at ISU for the past two years. In the fall of 1997, he was a visiting professor with the Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth in Kyoto, Japan.

Rodermel received a B.A. in philosophy from Yale University, New Haven, Conn.; an M.A. in zoology and physiology from the University of Wyoming, Laramie; and a Ph.D. in cellular and developmental biology from Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.

Rodermel has been the recipient of numerous grants from various agencies including the USDA, U.S. Department of Energy and National Science Foundation.
