ISU'S SOLAR CAR TEAM WILL COMPETE IN FORMULA SUN GRAND PRIX

AMES, Iowa -- Team PrISUm, Iowa State University's solar car team, will compete in a Formula Sun Grand Prix, May 19-25, at Heartland Park, Topeka, Kan. The race will include 15 solar car teams, many of whom competed in Sunrayce 99.

"We are hoping to gain some race experience at the Formula Sun," said Team PrISUm Director Nick Mohr. "This is an entirely new team from the one that raced in last year's Sunrayce. Racing in a 'non-racing' year can provide invaluable experience for our team."

The Formula Sun race will be held on a 2.1-mile closed track. It will include 28.5 hours of racing over a three day period (May 23-25). The car that completes the most laps during the race is the winner.

Team PrISUm will race the PrISUm Phoenix solar car, which finished fifth in last year's Sunrayce. The solar car team currently is designing a new solar car for the American Solar Challenge, a Chicago to Los Angeles solar car race to be held July 2001.
