IOWA STATE TO OFFER YOUTH EXERCISE PROGRAM IN JUNE

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University’s College of Education will host a three-week, pre-school youth exercise program June 12-29.

The program is open only to residents of Ames and nearby communities due to limited enrollment. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. in ISU’s Forker Building.

Activities will include gymnastics, fundamental movements, motor skill activities, and swimming. Kathi Thomas-Thomas, associate professor of health and human performance, has been working with youth athletics for 30-years. She also is author of the infant swimming guide used by more than 2,000 YMCAs nationwide.

Children should wear swimsuits under comfortable clothing and athletic shoes and socks (no sandals). Children should bring a towel.

The pre-school swimming sessions allow children to practice water safety rules while developing confidence. Children learn basic water skills such as putting their faces in the water, breath-holding, moving on their own, turning around, and climbing out of the pool.

Cost for the program is $60 per child; $80 for two siblings. Registrations are due June 9.
