SECOND STUDENT CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH SCULPTURE THEFT

AMES, Iowa – A second Iowa State University student has been charged in connection
with the theft of a portion of the Christian Petersen "Marriage Ring" sculpture.

Department of Public Safety officials charged Quincy John Jones, 20, with felony theft and felony criminal mischief on Monday, Sept. 25. Jones allegedly was the accomplice of Nick Ryan Johnson, 22, who was charged last week with felony theft and felony criminal mischief.

The Petersen sculpture, which is in the lobby of MacKay Hall, was a gift to the university from students in the class of 1941. It depicts several children playing around a fountain. On Thursday, Sept. 14, the head of one of the children was removed and stolen. The damaged head has been recovered. The statue also is known as "Ring of Life."
