HIRA NAMED SENIOR ASSOCIATE DEAN IN ISU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

AMES, Iowa – Labh Hira, associate dean for Iowa State University’s College of Business, has been promoted to senior associate dean. Hira has been an associate dean of business since 1996.

In the new, four-year position, Hira will have primary responsibility for budgeting, the Gerdin Building project, technology needs and space utilization, said College of Business Dean Benjamin Allen. He will also be involved in fund-raising activities.

Allen said the new position was created because of a significant increase in enrollment and the number of new programs implemented by the college in the last five years.

"Dr. Hira has served the College of Business exceptionally well as an associate dean," Allen said. "He was a critical member of the management team during the growth and development of the college. He is well-respected across campus and in the business community."

Hira came to Iowa State in 1982 as a temporary instructor of accounting. In 1983, he became an adjunct assistant professor of accounting. In 1985, he became an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1987. In 1989, he served as interim chair for the department of accounting. He was named chair of the departments of accounting and finance in 1990. He was promoted to full professor in 1991.
