TOYING WITH TECHNOLOGY TAKES TO THE LINKS

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's Toying with Technology class will take to the links for their last event of the year. The 21 elementary education students have created an eight-hole miniature golf course around the theme of Alice in Wonderland.

The students will play the "Alice in Golfland" course Tuesday, April 24, in the basement of Lagomarcino, room N031. Tee time is 3:30 p.m., and the course will be open to faculty and students.

Each hole of the miniature golf course represents a chapter in the original Alice in Wonderland book. The golf course is built out of LEGOs and is robotic in the sense that each hole has two moving parts controlled by the RCX Lego Bricks. The students had to program the moveable parts on the course.

Toying with Technology is an engineering course the elementary education students take to learn team problem solving and how to employ technology, said Larry Genalo, a professor of materials science and engineering who coordinates the class.
