REIMAN GARDENS EXTENDS SUNDAY HOURS

AMES, Iowa -- Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University will open three hours earlier on Sundays.

Beginning Sept. 1, the gardens will open at 9 a.m. The change will be part of the gardens' fall hours, which will be in effect until November.

"We had been opening at noon on Sundays, but decided to make the change in response to requests we had received from several people," said Teresa McLaughlin, Reiman Gardens director. "With school back in session, we will have more student staff available for the extended hours."

The gardens' fall hours will be: Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Monday-Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Reiman Gardens also will give members of its volunteer group eight extra hours to enjoy the gardens. Beginning Sept. 1, the gardens will be open from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday-Thursday for the CoHorts, Reiman Gardens' member organization.

"The CoHorts play a huge role in the success of the gardens and we wanted to do something to show our appreciation," McLaughlin said.

There are approximately 350 CoHort households in Ames. CoHorts pay minimum annual dues of $35 and serve as tour guides, event hosts and in other volunteer roles. CoHort membership information is available at Reiman Gardens.

Reiman Gardens will switch to winter hours in November. Winter hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
