ISU ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM RANKED AS ONE OF NATION'S BEST

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's architecture program has been ranked as one of the nation's best by design professionals.

The program, a department in Iowa State's College of Design and the only one in the state of Iowa, ranked 7th in a "DesignIntelligence" survey of architecture professionals. "DesignIntelligence" is publication of the design profession.

Approximately 3,000 architecture professionals were asked to name programs they felt best prepare architecture students for entry into and success in the architecture field.

"This ranking represents a significant accomplishment for both our graduates and our faculty who prepared them," said Calvin Lewis, professor and chair of architecture. "This is the third year for the 'DesignIntelligence' survey. We've always ranked in the top 25, but only the top 15 were listed in the publication. Fortunately, this year we made a significant jump up to No. 7 and are pleased to be included in the list of elite architecture programs. The fact that we are part of a public institution makes the accomplishment even greater."

The "DesignIntelligence" rankings for university architecture programs are below.
  1. Cornell University
  2. Harvard University
  3. University of Cincinnati
  4. Syracuse University
  5. Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Michigan (tie)
  6. Iowa State University
  7. University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and University of Virginia (tie)
  8. Texas A&M University and Yale University (tie)
  9. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  10. Columbia University
  11. University of Notre Dame
  12. University of Pennsylvania
Iowa State's architecture program annually graduates approximately 70 students.

"Our graduates supplement and enrich the profession in Iowa as well as spreading out to work at some of the most prestigious firms around the country," said Lewis.
