IOWA STATE'S AHRENS NAMED TO USA TODAY ACADEMIC SECOND TEAM

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University junior Lisa Ahrens was named to USA Today's All-USA College Academic second team on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Students are named to USA Today's All-USA Academic teams on the basis of academic performance, activities, leadership skills and contributions to the community. Ahrens, a double major in agronomy and ag business, was national Future Farmers of America president from 1998-1999. In that role, she has developed leadership training programs, recruited sponsors for the programs and presented them worldwide. In 1998, she was appointed to a six-year term as student representative on the Board of Regents, State of Iowa.

She was an International Youth Panelist for United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Conference in 1998. She served as one of five panelists from around the world concerning the topic of international rural youth development. She also served on the State of Iowa Governor's Council on Agricultural Education from 1997-1998.

Ahrens was nominated for the USA Today All-USA College Academic Team by the Iowa State Honors Program.
