MCLAUGHLIN NAMED REIMAN GARDENS DIRECTOR

AMES, Iowa -- Teresa McLaughlin has been named director of Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University. The appointment is effective immediately.

The change was made to better reflect McLaughlin's responsibilities and role in the development of the gardens, said Murray Blackwelder, vice president for external affairs. McLaughlin was hired as director of public relations and development for Reiman Gardens in September 1999.

As director, McLaughlin will coordinate the gardens' academic programs and special events, and manage the gardens' annual $1.6 million budget; public relations programs; CoHorts volunteer program; and membership development. McLaughlin reports to the vice president for external affairs and the provost.

Prior to coming to Iowa State, McLaughlin was the executive director of the United Way of Southwestern Indiana, Evansville. She also served as director of the United Way of Johnson County, Iowa City, from 1993-1998, and director of development for Hancher Auditorium and the University of Iowa Museum of Art, Iowa City, from 1989-1993.

She earned a B.S. in journalism and mass communication and environmental studies from Iowa State in 1980, and a M.B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1991.

Reiman Gardens is a 14-acre public educational horticultural garden. Reiman Gardens currently includes a learning center, children's garden, herb garden, rose garden, campanile garden, town and country garden and arboretum garden. A year-round conservatory complex, which will include a tropical indoor butterfly house, a 5,000 square foot conservatory, cafe, gift shop and greenhouses, are under construction and will open in the Fall 2002.
