VAN AUKEN NAMED ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR ISU'S PAPPAJOHN CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP

AMES, Iowa -- Howard Van Auken, professor of management at Iowa State University's College of Business, has been named assistant director of academic programs for the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship.

Van Auken will develop graduate and undergraduate entrepreneurship education programs, coordinate the multi-college Entrepreneurship Supervisory Faculty Committee and work with the Pappajohn Center staff. He will work between the center and ISU's College of Business to identify potential students for internships, promote entrepreneurship ties with the college's faculty, and work to build stronger ties with the community.

"The Pappajohn Center is interested in a program that is nationally recognized as being innovative in providing students with opportunities to learn about commercialization of new technologies and new venture creation," Van Auken said. "I would like to see experiential learning opportunities for students as part of the Pappajohn Center technology labs."

"Van Auken will strive to develop an innovative educational program that provides students meaningful knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship," said Steven Carter, interim director of the ISU Research Park.

Van Auken has lectured and developed entrepreneurship programs in Mexico, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Malaysia and Canada. He has been a William J. Fulbright Scholar twice. He has also served as vice president for four different divisions of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).

He has received the Iowa Legislative Teaching Award and ISU International Service Award. From the College of Business, he has been awarded Advisor of the Year, Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and the Business Impact Award.

He has worked for more than 15 years with small businesses in Iowa in the areas of business planning, capital acquisition, pricing and business valuation.
