POLITICAL COMMENTATOR ESTRICH TO TALK AT IOWA STATE

AMES, Iowa -- Law professor and political commentator Susan Estrich will speak at Iowa State University on Wednesday, March 28, as part of Women's History Month.

Estrich, the Robert Kingsley Professor of Law and Political Science at the University of Southern California, will speak at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. Her talk is free and open to the public. A reception and book signing will follow her talk.

Estrich became the first woman to head a national presidential campaign when she directed Michael Dukakis' election bid in 1988. She also was first woman president of the Harvard Law Review. Her books include "Real Rape," "Getting Away with Murder: How Politics is Destroying the Criminal Justice System" and the recently published "Sex and Power."

Estrich is a frequent guest on national news programs, including "Firing Line" and "60 Minutes." She is a featured commentator on Fox News.

Estrich's visit to Iowa State is hosted by the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics. While on campus, Estrich also will meet informally with Iowa State students and participate in the presentation of Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics. Co-sponsors of Estrich's visit to campus are the Committee on Lectures, funded by GSB; the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Miller Lecture Fund; Margaret Sloss Women's Center; Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication; Department of Political Science; Women's Studies Program; and the YWCA of Ames/ISU.
