ISU ROAD SCHOLARS TOUR TO VISIT IOWA COMMUNITIES APRIL 6-7

AMES, Iowa -- Richard Seagrave, interim president of Iowa State University, and Rollin Richmond, Iowa State provost, will lead a group of faculty and staff on a two-day Road Scholars tour of western Iowa, April 6-7.

The purpose of the Road Scholars tour is to introduce new faculty and staff to the state of Iowa. The tour group travels the state by bus, visiting schools, historic sites, nature areas, businesses and farms. Tour stops will include Jefferson, Carroll, Denison, Dunlap, Moorhead, Council Bluffs, Macedonia and Atlantic.

There will be approximately 50 Iowa State faculty, staff and administrators on the trip. Two buses will be used and the groups will split off to visit separate areas on one occasion.

Attached is the itinerary for the north central Iowa Road Scholars tour. You are welcome to join the group at any point during the tour. The schedule is tight. If you would like to interview members of the tour group, you may want to do so while riding the tour bus for a short distance. John Anderson, associate director of ISU University Relations, will be on the tour. He can assist you in meeting tour members or making other arrangements. April 6-7, 2001

Friday, April 6, 2001
  • 7:30 a.m. Depart Memorial Union
  • 8:30 a.m. Arrive in Jefferson, visit Jefferson-Scranton High School
  • 10:25 a.m Arrive in Carroll, tour Industrial Park (One bus will go to Farner-Bocken Co. One bus will go to Pella Window Corp.)
  • 11:45 a.m. Lunch at Carrollton Inn with community leaders.
  • 1:35 p.m. Arrive in Denison, tour Petersen Mfg. Co. (Bus 1)
  • 2 p.m. Arrive in Dunlap, tour Dunham Hardwoods' kiln dried foreign and domestic hardwoods operation (Bus 2)
  • 3:30 p.m. Arrive in Moorhead (both buses), slide show and refreshments at Moorhead Community Building; visit "Look Out" point in Loess Hills
  • 5:30 p.m. Arrive Honey Creek, Alumni Reception, Hitchcock Nature Center
  • 7 p.m. Arrive Council Bluffs, dinner and tour of the Historic Dodge House
  • 9 p.m. Arrive at Harveys Casino-Hotel

  • 7:30-9 a.m. Breakfast at Iowa Western Community College
  • 9:35 a.m. Arrive Macedonia, visit Gary and Diane Forristal, Silver Creek Farms
  • 11:40 a.m. Arrive Lewis, tour and lunch at Wallace Learning Center's Armstrong Research Farm
  • 1:15 p.m. Arrive Atlantic, tour Lauren Christian Swine Research Center
  • 4 p.m. Arrive Madrid, tour and refreshments at 4-H Camp
