IOWA STATE'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS OFFERS
NEW MASTERS OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's College of Business will offer a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) degree beginning Fall, 2001.

The program provides students with a strong set of technical skills and a broad background in business that is tailored for careers in corporate middle management.

"There is a great demand for information systems professionals who understand both the technical details and the business issues," said G. Prem Premkumar, associate professor in management information systems. "This program is specifically designed to provide both perspectives. It enables students to take up management positions in the information systems field. Although we are not restricting it to any particular major, this program is ideal for students with a minimal exposure to computing or programming."

Coursework includes a study of software development and integration, network and data management and project management and implementation; an IS internship is required.

"Although Iowa State currently offers an IS concentration in the MBA, we view the MSIS as a focused degree that a student can pursue to increase their IS skills beyond those suited for an entry-level position," said Brian Mennecke, associate professor in management information systems.
