RUSSIAN AUTHOR SPEAKS AT IOWA STATE

AMES, Iowa -- Russian writer Andrei Dmitriev will present a series of talks on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 12-13, at Iowa State University. He also will speak in Des Moines.

Dmitriev is the author of "A Bend in the River" and "Closed Book." He has been nominated for the International Pushkin Prize and the Russian Booker Prize. He wrote the screenplay for a new film version of "The Inspector General," based on Nikolai Gogol's play.

Dmitriev's Iowa State appearances include a public lecture on Monday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union. He will talk about his work on "The Inspector General" screenplay and show excerpts from the film. Dmitriev will discuss post-Soviet Russian literature with students in a Russian course at 10 a.m. in 201 Pearson.

He will give a reading and discuss recent development in Russian literature and cultural life on Tusday, Nov. 13, at 2:10 p.m. in 217 Pearson.

All events are free and open to the public.
