ISU'S BRANSTAD EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE BY DECEMBER 28

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University is accepting applications for the Branstad Scholarship in Education program, which was created in 1998 to honor former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad's commitment to education.

The Branstad Scholarship in Education is a four-year, tuition and fees scholarship given annually to an incoming Iowa resident freshman that enrolls in the teacher education program at ISU.

The scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, enthusiasm for teaching, commitment to teaching in Iowa, involvement in extra-curricular activities and the promise of leadership ability. The recipient must be a full-time student and maintain a 3.0 grade point average to remain eligible for the award. This is the fourth year for the program.

"In the spirit of Governor Branstad's dedication to our state, ISU is committed to helping Branstad scholars become Iowa's best teachers -- teachers who are leaders committed to excellence and to model citizenship in their professions, schools, communities and the state," said Walter Gmelch, dean of the College of Education.

Applications are due Friday, Dec. 28. For more information or to download an application form, visit the scholarship's Web site at http://www.educ.iastate.edu/scholar/teached/fshteach/tesfr.htm or contact Carol Fuhler at phone (515) 294-3328 or e-mail at cfuhler@iastate.edu.
