SOLAR CAR TEAM ASKS FOR HELP IN NAMING NEXT CAR

AMES, Iowa -- Team PrISUm, Iowa State University's solar car team, is holding a contest to name the next solar car.

"We thought this would be a good way to get ISU students, faculty and staff as well as anybody else involved with the solar car project," said Ross Fischer, assistant director of Team PrISUm.

Fischer said anyone with an idea that would be fitting as the name of the next car is eligible. Ideas will be accepted through Jan. 1, 2002.

Participants are asked to provide a brief description of why their name would be fitting for the car. The winning name will be announced no later than Feb. 1, 2002. A form for submitting ideas is accessible online at www.prisum.iastate.edu/contest.php.

Team PrISUm is currently designing its seventh solar car. Names for past cars include Odyssey (2001), Phoenix (1999) and Excytor (1997). The name many times becomes part of the car's paint job and a focal point for the team and the project.

A Team PrISUm T-shirt and commemorative plaque will be awarded to the individual(s) who submits the winning name.
