ISU STUDENT HEALTH CENTER EARNS ACCREDITATION

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's Thomas B. Thielen Student Health Center has been accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), Wilmette, Ill. The accreditation is an important milestone for the health center, said Jim Nelson, director of student health.

"This full three-year accreditation is the first for the health center. We are the only clinic in Ames to be accredited," Nelson said. "It underscores our long-standing commitment to providing the highest quality care to the students of Iowa State."

The Thielen Health Center underwent an extensive on-site peer-based survey of its facilities and services by the AAAHC. It was judged against more than 400 standards and 16 critical aspects of ambulatory care including quality of care, pharmaceutical services, diagnostic imaging services, and health education and wellness services. More than 1,300 ambulatory health care organizations in the United States are accredited by the AAAHC.

"This really does say a lot about the student health center and the people who work in it," Nelson added. "It shows the level of care we provide and it reflects on the level of commitment by those who work at the health center. Our staff has worked very hard for the past two years to accomplish this goal."
