ISU'S SHRADER EARNS TEACHING AWARD

AMES, Iowa -- C. Bradley Shrader, a professor of management in the College of Business at Iowa State University, has been awarded the Phillip G. Hubbard Award for Outstanding Education.

The award honors the late Phillip G. Hubbard, a University of Iowa professor of mechnical engineering. It is sponsored by Joseph Walder and Integrated DNA Technologies, Inc., Coralville. Walder and Hubbard were friends and partners on a early childhood development non-profit venture.

Shrader will receive an $18,000 gift. He will be presented the award at a reception on May 1 at the Scheman Building. The same award also is being given to faculty at the University of Iowa and at the University of Northern Iowa.

Shrader teaches courses in Iowa State's full time, Saturday, and Des Moines MBA programs. He was one of the founding co-directors of the Murray Bacon Center for Ethics in Business. He was a charter member of the ISU Center for Teaching Excellence, serving on the board of directors and as board chair.

"Brad Shrader is a highly respected teacher and role model for student-oriented teaching and learning," said James McElroy, associate dean of business. "He is an enthusiastic teacher who is genuinely interested in his students. While his classes are viewed as rigorous, students quickly realize the importance of thinking and communicating in the business world."

Shrader's management case studies have been widely published in numerous journals and texts. He uses these studies in his teaching to spur class discussion.

"It is wonderful to work in partnership with the outstanding students and faculty at Iowa State University," said Shrader. "I am privileged to perform work I very much enjoy -- teaching and research."

Shrader received a B.S. in sociology and a M.P.A. from Brigham Young University, and a MBA and Ph.D. in management from Indiana University. He has been on the faculty at Iowa State since 1984.
