CHANG ELECTED TO EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

AMES, Iowa -- Carl Chang, professor and chair of the department of computer science at Iowa State University, has been elected to the European Academy of Sciences. Chang was selected "for an outstanding and lasting contribution to computer science and education."

The European Academy of Sciences is an independent organization that has 520 members elected in recognition of their distinction as scientists. The Academy promotes science and technology, facilitates scientific cooperation, conducts research and creates new scientific centers.

Chang joined Iowa State in July 2002. He had served as director of the Institute for Reconfigurable Smart Components at Auburn University in Alabama.

Chang's research in software engineering focuses on developing large-scale software systems. He also has research projects in net-centric computing (computer networks, web standards and technologies, and network security), which is geared toward developing computer programs that foster greater worker collaboration.

Chang is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is active in the IEEE Computer Society (currently serving as a vice president), the world's oldest and largest professional computing association.
