NIEVES NAMED INTERIM DIRECTOR OF ISU'S VETERINARY TEACHING HOSPITAL

AMES, Iowa -- Dr. Mary Ann Nieves, associate professor of veterinary clinical sciences, has been named interim director of Iowa State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

An Iowa State faculty member since 1989, Nieves is chief of the small animal surgery section at the veterinary hospital. She served as director of the Wildlife Care Clinic from 1990-96. She completed a residency in small animal surgery at the college in 1989.

Before coming to Iowa State, Nieves was a private practitioner at a small animal hospital in Baltimore, Md. She received her veterinary degree in 1984 from Oklahoma State University and her master's degree in 1993 from Iowa State. Nieves is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Nieves is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Her awards include the Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teaching Award, the most prestigious teaching award conferred by the college.

Nieves replaces Dr. Chris Brown who accepted a position at the University of Guelph Ontario Veterinary College, Canada.
