ISU SOLAR CAR TEAM SELECTS NAME FOR NEW CAR

AMES, Iowa -- PrISUm Spectrum will be the name of Iowa State's seventh solar car. Spectrum was one of more than 80 names submitted in a naming contest by Team PrISUm, the Iowa State student group that designs, builds and races solar cars.

William Lovig of Columbia, Mo., submitted the winning name. He will receive a plaque and team T-shirt for his efforts.

"We had an impressive number of names to choose from," said Ross Fischer, assistant director of Team PrISUm. "In the end, we like Spectrum because of what it stands for and because it is a clever play on words referring to the light spectrum which, of course, solar cars rely on for their power."

Fischer said Team PrISUm students are hard at work finishing the design of the new car. The team plans on racing Spectrum in the American Solar Challenge, a cross-country solar car race that will be held in the summer of 2003.
